Official synopsis
After seeing garnet and amethyst fuse into the powerful sugilite, Steven is determined to become super strong.[2]

Coach Steven (002)
The episode begins with Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, and Steven returning to the former Crystal Gem communications center. Pearl explains that she is releasing flashes of electromagnetic interference and must be destroyed, prompting a confused reaction from Steven. Garnet then tells Steven that it's "hurting the TV", which motivates Steven enough to help. As a joke, Amethyst transforms into a more muscular version of Steven and starts pounding the pillars. Pearl stops Amethyst and tells her that they would need a well thought out plan to destroy the center. Garnet decides to use Sugilite, a fusion of Garnet and Amethyst, despite Pearl's warning to the plan that Sugilite is a dangerous entity. Garnet says they "don't have to be careful, but they have to be huge."
Coach Steven (059)
While Pearl tries to cover Steven's eyes, Garnet and Amethyst bond through a synchronized dance to form Sugilite. She creates her special weapon: a combination of Garnet's entwined gauntlets and Amethyst's whip, forming a weapon similar in nature to a flail. Sugilite will then use this flail to start smashing the pillars. Frustrated and worried, Pearl tells Steven they are going home, disappointing Steven. Steven is hit by debris from Sugilit's massacre, and Pearl hastily knocks it away just before the boulder crushes the Warp Pad.
Coach Steven (100)
Steven goes to the Big Donut to visit Lars and Sadie. His head is wrapped in bandages and he puts on sunglasses to cover the gash he got from the rock. Lars and Sadie start laughing when Steven shows his minor injury and Lars tells Steven to toughen up and be a man. Ironically, he then tries to open a jar of herrings, which Sadie easily opens for him. Steven then comes up with the idea of working out as a group and suggests Greg be their coach.
Coach Steven (131)
Greg builds basic exercise equipment for the group. He also decides to join in on their training, having skipped the practice for decades. Steven goes to his house to sweat and meets Pearl inside. Pearl asks what he's doing outside and Steven explains that he wants to be strong like Sugilite.
Pearl walks into the house and starts singing "Strong in the Real Way" while picking up Steven's clothes. Steven starts practicing with Greg, Sadie, and Lars and starts singing where Pearl left off in the song.
Coach Steven (158)
Greg, Lars, and Sadie are up the next morning and ready for the day's training, but Steven is sore from yesterday's workout. Regardless, he gets up and finds Pearl downstairs asking where Sugilite is, noting that the Warp Pad is downstairs (because Sugilite inadvertently destroyed it after Pearl and Steven left, unbeknownst to Pearl.) Outside, Sugilite is spotted , as he goes home and angrily wades through. ocean. When Sugilite arrives at the beach, Sugilite shouts that she is bored and complains that Pearl abandoned her, Pearl replies that she thought Sugilite didn't need help. Steven worriedly asks why Sugilite destroyed his father's gym and why she is attacking Pearl. Pearl tells Steven to get out of the area and throws him behind a ridge.
Coach Steven (252)
Pearl takes her spear and begins to fight Sugilite in an attempt to separate her back into Amethyst and Garnet, though Sugilite hits her hard. Greg moves in and grabs Steven to lead him away from the conflict, much to Steven's disdain. Pearl launches another attack, knocking down Sugilite's shades. This infuriates her even more, prompting her to punch Pearl upside down, punch her in the air again, and then knock her back to the ground with a two handed overhead strike. Sugilite then swings his gun at Pearl, knocking Steven and Greg down as well. Seemingly unable to fight any longer, Pearl then surrenders just before Sugilite is about to destroy her, stating that she feels sorry for Steven, Garnet, and Amethyst and that she is "not strong enough to protect anyone or do anything". Steven then tells Pearl through his bullhorn (he used it earlier to coordinate training) that he knows he can take her down and how she always knows what to do.
Steven's motivation encourages Pearl to stand up, ready to take down the Sugilite. Pearl looks at the top of the crystal temple and seems to formulate a plan. He taunts Sugilite, to which Sugilite responds with a punch attack. He misses and Pearl starts running down the cliff, Sugilite chasing close behind. Upon reaching the top of the cliff, Pearl jumps down and as Sugilite swings her flail to attack, she throws her spear at the cliff right under one of Sugilite's feet, causing part of it to crumble and Sugilite to lose her footing and fall. Sugilite quickly recovers and asks Pearl if she really thought she could beat her before being cut down by the end of the flail, then brought down on the top of her head, causing her to split back into Garnet and Amethyst. a puff of purple smoke. Both are left face down in the sand.
Coach Steven (271)
Pearl rushes over and asks the two if they are okay. Garnet explains how the Sugilite strained their bodies, so she agrees that Pearl is right. Pearl is suddenly very excited and proud of herself, and as a result she enthusiastically hugs the fallen Gems. Immediately after, he notices that they are both in pain and apologizes. Steven said to Pearl, "You did it!" and she thanks him. Garnet tells Pearl that she is right and they should have listened to her. Pearl replies that she's right and Steven encourages her, then suggests they go on a mission. The episode ends with Amethyst asking how long Pearl will keep it up, Garnet saying she deserves it, Lars asking what just happened and Steven yelling "Give me 20!" into his bullhorn.
